Anthony Mbakwe is a pure breed business professional with a career spanning over 20 years. He has worked in global multinational companies across the upstream oil and gas, mining, heavy manufacturing and downstream/distribution industries. His areas of expertise include accounting, finance, business development, M&A, commercial negotiations and general management. In the last 10 years he has managed the Anglophone West Africa businesses of ArcelorMittal Projects, a part of the ArcelorMittal Group, a leading mining, steel production and distribution company headquartered in Luxembourg.

Anthony has worked with the ArcelorMittal Group for 14 years, having joined as a member of the Global Leaders Programme, and, at various times, was responsible for Africa Region Development, Nigeria Greenfield Projects, and Global Business Development for Tubular Products. The result of his work in these roles formed the basis for the company’s decision to set up a dedicated Africa business unit, starting with Nigeria.

Prior to joining ArcelorMittal, Anthony worked with Norwegian Oil and Gas company, Statoil ASA (now Equinor ASA) as a Senior Business Analyst for the Global Exploration Team, based in Stavanger, Norway, and also with Statoil Nigeria as a Senior Financial Accountant.

Anthony holds a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the Institute of Management Development (IMD), Lausanne, Switzerland. He received his B.Sc. in Accounting from the University of Lagos and is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

He is a keen supporter of charitable causes and co-founded ANGUZ Partners, a vehicle he uses to support social development projects in South East Nigeria. He is also an avid runner and has completed over 15 international marathons, including 4 of the 6 majors.
